  • Lifted Ring proposes a large carpet, constructed as a pull-apart outdoor rug, consisting of three major sections, and reconfigurable/movable into the three major performance sites of Ragdale. ‘Draped’ over a structural frame, each carpet section features a primitive shape (rectangle, triangle, semi-circle) as a volumetric “lift” in an otherwise flat terrane that is often associated with carpet. Incisions into this drape allow for a secondary program or a support program to take place underneath, including visual art displays, changing light boxes, and shelter from the elements. In addition, these lifted volumes are occupiable at their surface, which allows them to serve as seating spaces when the configuration calls for arena-type seating. ‘Mobility’ in this sense is a carpeted quilt, separate but coupled.
